Marietta company must close after posting fake reviews, overbilling, attacking customers
A heating and air conditioning company based in Marietta, Ga., must close and pay more than $1.3 million in fines to the state after posting fake customer reviews on websites and charging customers for products and services not needed.
Mechanic’s Heating & Air Conditioning LLC and its owner,Monty White Jr., posted fake favorable customer reviews on websites that include Yelp.com, Kudzu.com, and Google+Local.com, according to Attorney General Sam Olens’ office.
The company and its owner violated the state’s Fair Business Practices Act at least 263 times, Olens said in a prepared statement.
When the company and its owner learned that certain consumers complained to the Better Business Bureau or to regulatory agencies, they retaliated by creating “attack” websites, including one titled “DirtyCustomer.com,” on which they posted harassing and intimidating remarks about the consumers, Olens said.
The company and White must permanently stop doing business in the heating and air conditioning industry within Georgia, and surrender all business and trade licenses, Olens said.
White must also dissolve the corporate status of all entities named in the Court’s most recent Order. They include: Teldar Staffing Services, LLC, Rhino Asset Management LLC, Mechanic’s Responds.com News LLC; Jupiter Asset Management LLC, and HVAC Consulting Services LLC.
The company and White are also ordered to remove all content and cease all use of 62 websites that were being used for the purpose of harassing consumers, Olens said.
