Revised 608 Rule Advanced Copy

The EPA has revised the Section 608 Refrigerant Management Regulations. To help you identify the changes quickly, the EPA has published a 3-page summary that can be printed and shared with your customers or students.

The Final Rule:

  • Updates the existing requirements related to ozone-depleting substances, such as CFCs and HCFCs to include HFCs and HFOs
  • More stringent requirements for repairing leaks in larger appliance
  • New record keeping requirements for the disposal of appliances containing five to 50 pounds of refrigerant
  • New reporting requirement for appliances that have leak rates higher than 125% of their total system charge in a calendar year
  • Restricting the sale of HFC refrigerant to technicians certified under Sections 608 or 609 of the Clean Air Act
  • Changes to improve readability and simplify compliance
  • Revising technician exam include ODS or substitutes
